John began playing trumpet at age 12. During high school, his love of music led him to the Toledo Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps where he marched in 1986. In 1987, he joined the Anaheim Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps where he served as mellophone section leader and horn sergeant until aging out in 1990. He went on to instruct the Denver Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps (1991), Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps (1992-1994), and Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps (1995).
For nearly 25 years, he has been an instructor, designer and clinician for a number of successful high school marching bands, drum lines and color guards throughout California, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and most recently helped to establish several new marching band programs in Shanghai, China.
John earned a bachelor's degree in business – from California State University, Fullerton. He is currently the director of sales and business development for Drum Corps International.
