Sompop Puengpreeda is the Lecturer of Trumpet at Mahidol University College of Music, where he has taught since 1996. He teaches applied trumpet, studio classes and serve as teacher/mentor for the College of Music Young Artists Program.
For a few years in Chulalongkorn University, he was elected to join in the 5th Asian Music Youth Workshop and being the band master of CU BAND. Puengpreeda was trumpet player in the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to Joining the TPO in 2005 to 2013, he was a member of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra from 1987 to 1990.
Equally comfortable performing jazz and commercial music, he has perform with well known group such as Chalermraj Big Band, Mai-Tai Chamber Orchestra, Charoenkrung Brass Ensemble, Kasikorn Band, The Yamaha Sound Big Band, The Siam Kolkarn Band and BICO Orchestra. He is also demand as a jazz trumpeter jazz pianist and music arranger performs regularly for a variety of functions and events.
In 2008, Sompop become conductor of the Bangkok Missionary Choir, whom he has conducted and performed with many countries around the world. Highlight performances have included a concert at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall almost every years since 2003.
Puengpreeda received a Bachelor in Music Education from Chulalongkorn University, and is currently completing his Master of Arts in Solo Performance at Mahidol University where he studies with Dr. Joseph Bowman. Previous teachers have included Wisit Jitrangsan, Yuth Punsa-ard, Manu Ho-Thai and Henry Nowak. Sompop is a Jupiter Performing Artist.
